In late 2019, Los Pobres Artistas contributed to “Future Relations: A Resource for Radical Teaching”, a bold exhibition in SOMArts' Main Gallery. Co-curated by Thomas Jones, Fred Alvarado, and David Petrelli, the show transformed the space into a hub for collective liberation, educational innovation, and creative healing. We collaborated with educators, artists, and youth to reimagine teaching through an ethnic studies lens—highlighting that learning happens everywhere, not just in classrooms. The opening reception included artist activations and performances; later programs featured “Self Defense Night” with poetry, comedy, and movement, and “State of Education Game Night” inspired by Octavia Butler’s speculative worlds.
