In December 2023, Los Pobres Artistas completed Space is the Place, a large-scale public mural at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Adeline Street in Oakland. Funded through an arts grant from the City of Emeryville, the piece serves as a visual timeline of the area’s layered history—from the Ohlone people, to the arrival of the railroad, through waves of gentrification, and the ongoing fight for housing rights. Blending vivid colors with symbolic imagery, the mural honors the past while envisioning a just and equitable future for the neighborhood.
